Update: Federal Mental Health and Addiction Grant Funding Restored

Jan 16, 2026

After a day of confusion and uncertainty, the Trump administration moved Wednesday night to restore approximately $2 billion in federal grant funding for mental health and addiction programs nationwide.

Late Tuesday, many congressionally appropriated Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grants were abruptly cut without warning, creating significant disruption to critically needed mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) services relied upon by millions of Americans. Thanks in part to your advocacy efforts and rapid engagement, this funding has been reinstated, and these vital mental health and SUD services can continue.

We are closely monitoring the situation and will continue working with our congressional allies on both sides of the aisle, along with our advocacy partners, to ensure this funding remains secure and that essential services continue without interruption. Our focus remains on protecting access to care and ensuring that these programs continue helping those who need them most.
