Membership Tiers

Individuals who are enrolled at least half-time in a regionally accredited college or university recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Applicant must provide documented proof of program participation on university/college letterhead [e.g., current academic year unofficial/official transcript, current semester registration or current academic year (degree program) acceptance letter]. Documentation proof must be submitted via email to memberservices@counseling.org within one week of applying for student membership status.

• Masters – Membership term is up to two years. An additional year may be granted with proof of continued registration and/or special circumstances.
• Doctoral – Membership term is up to four years (unless proof is provided indicating program allows more time for completion).

New Professional members receive two consecutive years of reduced membership dues before advancing to the Professional membership level at $189.

The annual dues schedule is as follows:

• Individuals who have graduated with a master’s or doctoral degree from a regionally accredited college or university recognized by CHEA within the past twelve months.
• New Professional First Year - $105 (one year only)
• New Professional Second Year - $135 (After first year, New Professional year-one members automatically move to this tier upon membership renewal.)

Important Note:

The New Professional second year level cannot be self-selected in the ACA Store. If you are between 12 and 24 months of graduating from a regionally accredited college or university, you are eligible to join ACA as a first-time new professional level two member. Proof of graduation status may be required. Please contact the Member Services Center for assistance at 1-800-298-2276, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. ET.

Join Now - New Professional

Individuals who hold a master’s degree or higher in counseling or a closely related field from a college or university that was accredited when the degree was awarded by one of the regional accrediting bodies recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

$189 Annual Dues

Join Now - Professional

Individuals whose interest and activities are consistent with those of the Association, but who are not qualified for Professional membership.

Join Now - Regular

This tier is only available with five continuous years of ACA regular or Professional membership in good standing immediately prior to retirement.
