National Maternal Mental Health Hotline First Anniversary

May 18, 2023

Last year, the U.S Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) rolled out a National Maternal Mental Health Hotline (NMMHH). This Hotline connects pregnant and postpartum mothers and family members to professional counselors who provide emotional support and resources for those overwhelmed and experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety.

In the first year, the NMMHH connected over 12,000 people to real-time support and resources. The average wait time to connect an individual to a counselor was 23 seconds for calls and 16 seconds for texts. Those in need can call or text 1-833-TLC-MAMA. The Hotline is free, confidential, and available 24/7. Providers are available in English and Spanish with interpreters offered in 60 languages.

Pregnancy and caring for a newborn can create a wide range of emotions and uncertainty for moms and families that make daily tasks difficult to complete. For more information, on Monday, May 22nd at 1pm EDT, HRSA and NMMHH will be hosting an informational webinar. You can register for this event here.
