Proposal Submission Guidelines

We encourage submissions from counselors, consultants, legal professionals and other related experts with a passion for ethics and professional responsibility. Proposals should include:

  • A clear and concise session title.
  • A session description (150–200 words) that outlines the objectives and takeaways.
  • Target audience and skill level (beginner, intermediate, advanced).
  • Speaker(s) bio and relevant expertise.

Proposal Topics

We welcome session proposals that address a wide range of ethical, legal and risk-related topics relevant to the counseling profession. Priority will be given to sessions that are practical, clearly aligned to current standards of practice and informed by real-world application. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Ethical decision-making models and real-world application
  • Navigating dual relationships and boundary-setting
  • Supervision ethics and the supervisor–supervisee relationship
  • Documentation, recordkeeping, and professional disclosure
  • Mandated reporting, duty to warn, and liability in crisis situations
  • Managing risk in telehealth, social media, and digital communication
  • Legal considerations: subpoenas, court testimony, and licensure board complaints
  • High-risk areas from insurance data: what leads to claims and how to avoid them
  • Ethics in multicultural, LGBTQIA+, and trauma-informed practice
  • Ethical issues in group work, family counseling, and school settings
  • AI and technology in counseling: ethical considerations
  • Supporting ethical practice in organizational and agency settings
