Health and Human Services Extends the Public Health Emergency for the Fourth Time

Jan 11, 2021

Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar has extended the Public Health Emergency (PHE) declaration an additional 90 days from January 21 through late April, ensuring key resources are available nationally for fighting the COVID-19 virus.

This is the fourth time that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has extended the PHE. The PHE allows for HHS to expand telehealth, telemedicine, and telebehavioral initiatives, which has offered licensed professional counselors the flexibility they need to provide greater access to behavioral health services to those in need.
