Course Outline

Part 1

Divided into two sections, counselors will explore the clinical and social significance of integrated care for co-occurring disorders and develop their understanding of how the brain influences both mental and metabolic functioning.
Modalities

Part 2

Broken into two sections, participants learn key concepts to help understand and explain underlying factors that contribute to the onset of mental and metabolic health disorders, emotional eating behaviors, and the development of addiction to unhealthy food substances.
Lifespan Development

Part 3

In this session, providers will explore facets of self-view and how a person’s early environment influences their identity and inner voice to help clients.
Assessment, Diagnosis, and Treatment

Part 4

This session presents counselors with concepts to help understand the underlying factors that contribute to the bidirectional nature of metabolic syndrome and anxiety disorders. 
Professional Counseling

Part 5

In this session, learn the key concepts that help providers understand and explain some underlying factors that contribute to the bidirectional nature of metabolic syndrome and trauma disorders.

Part 6

Broken into three sections, participants will review the critical interplay between personality disorders, traits, and metabolic health, explore how the marital relationship quality, and behaviors affect mental health, metabolic health, and physical functioning, and learn the significance of external factors that influence how individuals, families, and communities interact with food availability in their environment.
