New Diversity Book Series – Apply for Series Editor

Oct 20, 2025

The American Counseling Association (ACA) invites applications for a Series Editor to help shape and launch a forthcoming book series tentatively titled The Inclusive Practice. This series will focus on counseling clients from diverse populations and with a wide range of lived experiences.

This new series will seek to be responsive and adaptive to new and emerging thinking around counseling historically marginalized individuals and communities, with an emphasis on how to translate this new thought into actionable steps for counselors and practitioners. Each volume will be concise (approximately 125-150 pages) and approachable, while offering sufficient depth and breadth to serve as a practical and insightful resource for counselors across practice settings.

We anticipate the series will include multiple volumes, each focused on a distinct identity group, community, or lived experience (e.g., race, gender identity, disability, socioeconomic status, immigration status, incarceration, etc.). We seek a Series Editor to assist in developing and overseeing the first three volumes.

Responsibilities of the Series Editor include:

  • Collaborate with ACA Publications staff to define the overall vision, structure, and scope of the series overall and to oversee the production of the first three volumes
  • Identify key subject areas and populations to be addressed in the first three volumes
  • Recommend or recruit qualified author(s) for the first three volumes
  • Provide editorial review and feedback for each title under development during series editor’s term of appointment

This is a paid opportunity, and a modest honorarium will be provided. The Series Editor will work closely with the ACA Publications team to ensure the project reflects ACA’s values of inclusivity, cultural humility, and professional excellence.

To Apply:

Please submit a letter of interest outlining your qualifications, vision for the series, and any relevant editorial or publishing experience. Include a CV highlighting your background in counseling practice, scholarship, and/or publication. Send materials to publications@counseling.org by November 30, 2025.

We look forward to collaborating with a committed and visionary editor to help bring this important series to life.
