ACA Hill Day is back!

ACA Hill Day is back for a jam-packed, in-person event! ACA members and leaders will join us May 15-16, in Washington, DC, for two days of sharing, learning and connecting. Plus, participants will be able to opt-in to a supplemental virtual event focused on state advocacy efforts, taking place on May 17, 2024.

ACA recognizes the importance of lawmakers hearing directly from their constituents on critical issues that affect the counseling community. ACA Hill Day provides comprehensive training that focuses on equipping professional counselors with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to meet with their representatives in Congress and advocate for the profession.

What to Expect

Washington, DC | May 15–16, 2024

Over two days, participants will learn about legislative success and overcoming current legislative challenges. Leading experts will give insights on:

  • How to advocate for the counseling profession.
  • ACA’s legislative agenda.
  • Tips on conducting a successful Congressional meeting.
  • Getting involved in advocacy efforts at home.

After day one, participants will possess the tools and resources they need to advocate effectively. On day two, participants will take what they’ve learned and go to Capitol Hill to meet with legislators.&

Virtual | May 17, 2024

After a two-day, in-person event, interested participants are invited to join us for a supplemental virtual state advocacy session on May 17, from 1–2: 30 p.m. Eastern. The agenda for the event is as follows:

Registration and Travel

Open to ACA leadership and student members, ACA Hill Day is a free event but does require registration. Participants will also be responsible for securing their own hotel and travel accommodations. Students interested in participating may apply for a stipend to help cover hotel and travel accommodations. Use our online individual grant application and submit it as soon as possible to secure your stipend.

Who can participate?

What should I know about my legislator prior to the meeting?
To find your members of Congress and learn about their legislative priorities, visit senate.gov for Senate information and house.gov for information on the House of Representatives.

What sort of meeting follow-up should I do?
Send a “thank you” email outlining the points covered during the meeting. Follow up on the action requested and send additional information and materials as requested.
