AARC Condemns All Forms of Racism and Commits Funds for Research Investigating Racial Disparities

by Katherine Leiden | Jun 03, 2020
The Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling (AARC) emphatically condemns racism, systemic oppression of Black people, and police brutality that directly resulted in the brutal killing of George Floyd. We stand united.

AARC is an ACA Division

The Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling (AARC) emphatically condemns racism, systemic oppression of Black people, and police brutality that directly resulted in the brutal killing of George Floyd. This most recent tragedy is a continuation of a longer series of oppression our country has witnessed for generations. Our hearts go out to the grieving families, communities, and friends of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless others. This is a time of rage, pain, sadness, and anger for our country, profession, students, and clients. We all must continue to advocate and speak out against racism that has too long infected our country.

Given the dual viruses that have devastated our country, AARC is providing additional funds towards research programs that will specifically investigate racial disparities and oppression in areas such as assessment design, bias in diagnosis, and health care access and care surrounding COVID-19 and discrimination. This research should have a direct effect on influencing public policy and further the counseling profession. The formal call for proposals will be coming out later this summer.

We stand united.
