Paris Jackson Opens Up About Struggling With Depression; Hayden Panettiere on Postpartum Depression; British Soap Star Denise Welch Celebrates Sobriety, Fights Stigma of Mental Illness

Paris Jackson, the 18-year-old daughter of Michael Jackson recently opened up to Rolling Stone about her struggles with depression, anxiety, and drug abuse. “It was just self-hatred, low self-esteem, thinking that I couldn't do anything right, not thinking I was worthy of living anymore," she said. "I was crazy. I was actually crazy. I was going through a lot of, like, teen angst. And I was also dealing with my depression and my anxiety without any help.” After attending a therapeutic school in Utah, Paris is now sober and happier than ever. Read more here.

58-year-old British soap actress Denise Welch recently reflected on five years of sobriety, self-medicating with alcohol, and her bouts of depression. “Every single part of my life is better as a result of being sober. That has helped enormously to give me clarity. Giving up alcohol doesn’t cure depression, but it stops you compounding it,” she said. Welch now fights the stigma around mental health, and wishes more people would reach out to friends and loved ones struggling with mental health—the same way they would for those struggling with physical health issues.
