Kristen Bell recently appeared on Sam Jones’ Off Camera, where the Veronica Mars actress opened up about her battle with depression and anxiety.
“I struggled a lot with anxiety and depression,” Bell said, as she shared an anecdote about her mother sitting her down at age eighteen, telling her, “if you start to feel like you are twisting things around you and you start to feel like there’s no sunlight around you and you’re paralyzed with fear, this is what it is and here’s how you can help yourself.”
Bell admits, “I present this very cheery, bubbly person, but I also do a lot of work. I do a lot of introspective work and I check in with myself…”
Bell was recently honored at the 2016 SAMHSA Voice Awards, receiving a Special Recognition Award for her efforts to improve public awareness and understanding of behavioral health issues.
The 36-year-old television, movie, and voice actress has also appeared in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Frozen. She has been on the front lines bravely speaking out about the importance of supporting those living with mental illness and addiction.
