(This was from a recent discussion about the state of our union. I thought I would share)
When I started this profession decades ago I never thought I’d be writing this. It's 2017 not 1917 but here we are. We are living this. It IS real.
I am a therapist:
I don’t care if you are Muslim.
I don’t care if you are Jewish.
I don’t care if you are LGBTQ.
I don’t care if you are a legal citizen.
I don’t care who you voted for.
I don’t care if and who you pray to.
I don’t care if you are a Naturist.
I don’t care if you are rich, poor or middle class.
What I do care about is you and that your mental health needs are being met.
End of story.
WHO you are is what matters, not societal terms and stigmas.
We do not need to agree.
We do not need to be friends.
My office, my grounds are a sanctuary against stigma, hatred, anger and greed.
All are safe here.
All are welcome.
We treat people, not privilege.
