Conversion Therapy Ban Signed Into Law in Rhode Island

Governor Gina Raimondo has signed a bill making conversion therapty on minors illegal in Rhode Island, which joins California, Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, Nevada, and Washington D.C in banning the practice.

The bill makes it illegal in Rhode Island for licensed health care professionals to advertise or engage in conversion therapy for anyone under 18. It does not affect religious counselors or leaders -- or adults who choose such a program.

The American Counseling Association appreciates the help of all our members in Rhode Island who responded to our alerts and contacted their representatives in Providence.
