Internship in Mental Health Counseling
Student placement as a participant-observer in a cooperating agency or counseling setting engaged in mental health or human welfare services or in an institutional setting providing pre-professional experiences of relevance to the counselor-candidate which may differ from the student’s anticipated work setting. Experiences include a pre-placement orientation, weekly on-site supervisory visits and individual follow-through conferences on campus. This capstone course enables students to develop and apply their theoretical and practical knowledge in mental health counseling. The specialized principles of counseling are most appropriately understood and acquired in an authentic learning context. This course is appropriate for students who have already acquired a theoretical foundation and practical skill set in the area of counseling.
