Group facilitation will familiarize the students with the concepts of group counseling. It will provide the student with an introduction of how the counselor facilitates the process of forming a group, including but not limited to: determining group type, purpose, size, and leadership. Also,
students will examine the counselor’s responsibility to assist the group in establishing goals and clarifying ground rules. The student will also learn the concepts of process and content with relation to the group process. An opportunity to practice the skills presented will also be available in this course. This course will also provide the student with an opportunity to examine their own relationships with the concepts of power, in the role of group facilitator, as well as, gain an appreciation of the role and power of the group process itself.
