AODA Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment Planning

The student in this course will be introduced to the process and tools through which the AODA counselor collaborates with the client and others to gather and interpret information for the formation of a diagnosis based on the criteria in the DSM-IV TR. This course will also teach the student how to analyze and interpret the data they have gained in order to determine treatment recommendations as well as the ability to document their findings appropriately. It includes the procedure that the counselor and client develop treatment goals based on the clients’ identified strengths and weaknesses. Lastly, students will learn how to collaborate with the client in identifying the strategies needed to attain those goals.
