The Upward Bound grant program provides support to high school students from low-income families on the road to college admission. The program also provides opportunities for students to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Many programs within Upward Bound focus on tutoring, counseling, mentoring, cultural enrichment, work-study programs, education or counseling services designed to improve the financial and economic literacy of students.
The fundamental goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which students complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. The Upward bound program is a tremendous resource that school counselors can utilize to address the unique needs of students from disadvantaged backgrounds or groups that are traditionally underrepresented in postsecondary education.
