Strike While the Iron Is Cold: The Recovery-Oriented Benefits of Advance Directives
30-Minute Poster Session
Anne L. Metz
Advanced directives (ADs) are legal documents that let consumers direct their future health-care treatment. Many consumers report that having an AD with mental health instructions increases their sense of autonomy, empowerment, and well-being. The use of ADs has also been linked to improved clinical outcomes, such as a better working alliance and reduced rates of future involuntary treatment. This poster session will provide guidance on the basics of using ADs in recovery-oriented treatment planning.
