30-Minute Poster Session
Kimberly C. Borenstein-Mauss
Counselors are increasingly likely to encounter people with disabilities (PWDs) in clinical work. Awareness of how counselors view PWDs and the impact their attitudes have on work with clients are important for effective therapeutic work as well as for the development and delivery of multicultural competence training. Attendees will benefit from the examination of professional and ethical issues related to positive bias of PWDs in professional practice. Further, training strategies for addressing bias will be discussed.

Assessing Student Development: How Peers Can Be Gatekeepers
30-Minute Poster Session
Eleanor B. McAuliffe
Educators may be better able to assess and evaluate trainee development but it would beneficial to involve students in the feedback process. Peers may be aware of and identify students with problematic behaviors long before faculty do. Students interact with peers more frequently in multiple contexts and relate differently than in the classroom or professional setting. This session poster suggests a process for programs to involve students as a means of gatekeeping the future of the counseling profession.
