Adolescent substance use is prevalent in the U.S., creating a greater demand for effective counseling techniques in working with adolescents. Family systems therapy is an effective method in helping adolescents achieve recovery and prevent relapse. This poster session serves to evaluate the effectiveness of multidimensional therapy and brief strategic family therapy in use with adolescents using substances and their families. Clinicians will walk away with practical knowledge and familiarity with basic techniques.

This poster session provides a critical review of published data and studies on mental health and aging issues of older immigrant adults residing in the U.S.. This poster aims (a) to understand mental health needs of older immigrant adults, and (b) to increase counselors’ awareness of challenges older immigrant adults face while seeking mental health services. Counseling approaches and intervention ideas for improving older immigrant adults’ mental health and quality of life will be explored.

Reproduction is an essential aspect of the life cycle. However, reproduction doesn’t come easy to everyone. Infertility affects around 9–15 percent of the childbearing population. It affects men as well and not just in the physical sense. Men also have dreams, desires, and emotions. Those dreams, desires, and emotions often are not acknowledged, causing additional stress and complications to the relationship. A more systemic approach to viewing infertility is needed to help process such a difficult time.
