The goal for this roundtable is to help attendees understand the cycle of deployment and its effect on military families. Additionally, attendees will explore nonconventional methods of treatment to address the unique needs of the military culture. Attendees also will explore appropriate resources to aid in providing collaborative care for service members and their families.

Fostering Resilience in Military Families Through Targeted Intervention and Advocacy

With more than 23 million personnel serving in branches of the U.S. military, civilian counselors must be knowledgeable of issues pertaining to this special population. This roundtable is designed to engage community counselors in a robust discussion surrounding barriers to treatment, efficacious family interventions, and advocacy application. Attendees will leave with an outline of advocacy suggestions aimed at reducing barriers to treatment and a handout of military resources for service members and their families.

Supporting Military-Connected Students Through School Counselor Collaboration
30-Minute Roundtable Session

An informative session about relationships between professional school counselors and school liaison officers serving military dependent children will be presented. Role distinctions and partnerships that might exist were investigated to find ways to better serve military dependent children in schools through collaboration. The presenters will share the findings of research conducted including resource directories, case studies, and implications for training professional school counselors.
