Dr. Judy Lewis Counselors for Social Justice Award
Dr. Judy Lewis Counselors for Social Justice Award recognizes a person (or persons) who has engaged in social justice and advocacy aimed at making the lives of others and/or communities better through empowerment, community organizing, and/or systems change through active engagement ($500 honorarium).
Presented to Brandé Flamez
Brandé Flamez, PhD, LPC, NCC, is a professor at Lamar University and the founder and CEO of SALT (Serving and Learning Together) World Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing volunteer services to developing countries. Currently, she is president of the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors, cochairs the bylaws/ethics committee of the Association of Humanistic Counseling (AHC), and serves as a mentor for the AHC emerging leader program. She is the coauthor of the following textbooks: Counseling Assessment and Evaluation: Fundamentals of Applied Practice; Diagnosing and Treating Children and Adolescents: A Guide for Mental Health Professionals; and A Counselor’s Guide to the Dissertation Process: Where to Start and How to Finish. In honor of her daughter Evelyn and Dr. Judy Lewis, Dr. Flamez is donating 100 percent of the honorarium to St. Francis in Tanzania, a school for children with disabilities that supports Albino children who are often a target of violence.
