    ACA Foundation Awards Seven Grants

by User Not Found | Sep 30, 2019
The American Counseling Association Foundation Board of Trustees provided grants in the amount of $500 to seven American Counseling Association members to further counseling-related projects they created to benefit their clients and communities. The grant recipients’ work will help many people, including counselors in training, children, incarcerated individuals and others.

The summer 2019 grant recipients are:

    • Claire Barry of New Orleans, LA. She will study learning and embracing emotions.
    • Chelsea Conaway and Brittany Hudson of Converse, TX. They will create training materials for counselors in training that focus on gender-affirming play.
    • Eva Gibson of Clarksville, TN. She will create a mentoring program for African American boys.
    • Amy Grybush of Charlotte, NC. She will study attitudes related to trauma-informed care among teachers working in rural Title I elementary schools.
    • Mónica Rodriguez of Denton, TX. She is developing a disaster-relief play-therapy program in Puerto Rico.
    • Catherine Scillia of Hamden, CT. She is working on reducing health disparities among children through self-care coaching and therapy using plush toys.
    • Kevin Webster of Hesperus, CO. He is working on promoting personal development and self-help in a southwestern rural county jail.

The American Counseling Association Foundation provides grants twice a year to ACA members who are licensed professional counselors, counselor educators, or graduate students expanding their clinical services, reaching out to culturally diverse populations, or creating resources for those in need of counseling support. Grant applications are available online during each application period.

Additional information about the American Counseling Association Foundation, including donation opportunities, is available on the foundation’s website. The American Counseling Association Foundation receives no financial support from American Counseling Association member dues.
