ACA's Taskforce on Counselor Wellness and Impairment
Educational Programs
Education is the first step in preventing impairment. By reviewing the
information on this site, counselors can increase their knowledge about
issues of impairment and begin developing a self-care program individualized
to meet the needs of their whole self. It is important to begin a dialogue
with colleagues and supervisors about the impact of the work and ways
to make wellness a reality, both individually and systemically. In addition
to reviewing the content of this site and dialoguing with peers about
these important issues, many counselors find it helpful to attend in-person
training programs. Wherever counselors may find themselves on the spectrum
from wellness to impairment, educational programs focused on developing
self-awareness, creating community, and learning tools to transform
stress can help build their resiliency against impairment.
We would like for this page to be an ever-growing listing of available
training opportunities across the nation that focus on the topics of
stress, impairment, vicarious traumatization, self-care and wellness.
Please forward training announcements to bethvenart@msn.com
so that we can post them here for all counselors to access.
