I’m hopping off the social media train this week because I feel compelled to talk about a pressing matter for myself and would absolutely love some feedback on this particular blog. Last week, I discussed what parts of myself am I going to sacrifice for my professional identity. As a doctoral student who is trying to make a name for herself and flesh out her vita, as well as a new group practice owner, I am finding myself questioning when is enough enough? And by that I mean when is it ok for me to say no and not feel like I’m neglecting something.

Last week Anthony Centore wrote a great blog about the ethics of Facebook and things to consider if clients ask to friend us on Facebook, etc. I loved the post but there was a point that stood out for me and made me question some things. He stated (and honestly, rightfully so) that one should consider cleaning up his/her profile. The reason being that it can blur the professional/personal boundaries that we try to set up for our clients.

I think by now you all have deduced that I enjoy my social media. I tweet (professionally as UltreyaTherapy) and I am on facebook. I tend to focus these blogs on technology in counseling, but I have found myself this last week feeling a need to talk about a trend that I’ve been seeing in my twitter and facebook feeds lately.

Ok, so if you attended the ACA conference and you decided to peruse presenters you MAY have seen my name in the back as a poster presenter. Let me first say that I am completely humbled by that experience and was so grateful for the opportunity. Let me also say that IF you were one of the few that came by, thank you and can you please email me because somehow I lost my registration book with everyone’s email! I am mortified by that small fact for the record.
