Counseling Internships: Help has Arrived

Over the past few years it dawned on me that there are close to 1000 counseling education programs in the US – over 600 of them CACREP-accredited. That’s tremendous! What’s more, literally every student in every program must go through an internship. The American Counseling Association estimates that it has approximately 20,000 student members! Yet, for all of these realities, until now there has been no resource on the web for students to find counseling internships. That just didn’t seem right.

I hope to help fill this void with Counselinginternships.com which provides a directory of 2 kinds of internships:
• Strictly Business: These are literal internships – opportunities where employers have hung up a sign saying, “Interns wanted!”
• Double Agents: These are paid job opportunities that can be obtained with some graduate education or less but which fulfill the internship requirements of most graduate programs.

The cost to students is low and there’s a growing pool of totally free content on the site for students on the site, including blogs from me and a number of incredibly gifted counseling interns providing helpful hints and suggestions to help navigate the internship journey.

The site is totally free to employers and internship providers. They simply register and post opportunities. Applications will come directly to you.

We will be visible at the 2013 ACA Conference in Cincinnati so please come see us!
