Have you heard about the President's Volunteer Service Awards?

If you work at a qualifying agency that utilizes volunteers, you should seriously consider becoming involved with the President's Volunteer Service Awards program. It is easy to sign up if you qualify (specific information pertaining to qualifications and to sign up as an agency or as a volunteer can be found at the link below). Should you decide to sign up, the online process takes only a few minutes; it is then reviewed and either approved or denied. The review process can take a few weeks but our agency learned of the approval in a matter of a few days. Volunteers can register at the site and keep track of their hours. The Certifying Agency (each one is given a unique number that they give to volunteers) then periodically certifies the hours and then orders the awards as needed. The awards do cost a few dollars each from the agency but it is well worth the few dollars to both recognize your appreciation of the volunteer and to have received the many many free hours of service. The award comes in several levels, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Lifetime. The hours required for awards varies based on age. Hours required are as low as 50 for Kids earning a bronze and as high as 4000 for those earning a lifetime award. Depending on what the Certifying agency decides to purchase, awards prices range as low as $2.00 for just a lapel pin to $4.75 for a lapel pin, certificate and letter from the President of the United States of America. Some agencies will give the awards to volunteers periodically at events; others will simply give them to the individual as they are earned, without fanfare. Our agency however has decided to also issue a “Harbinger of Hope award” lapel pin with our logo on it as well, to every award winner. Surprisingly, just days into being a Certifying Agency we have at least two volunteers who have earned Lifetime awards and at least one who has earned Gold! I hope you all take a quick look at the site below. I would love to see “Lifetime Award” added to your Curriculum Vitas.
