Loyola University Maryland Professor Becomes ACA President

Dr. Brad ErfordALEXANDRIA, VA.... Loyola University Maryland professor Bradley T. Erford, PhD, is the new president of the American Counseling Association (ACA), the largest nonprofit association for professional counselors in the world. His term is set for July 1, 2012- June 30, 2013.

Erford earned his doctorate in counselor education from the University of Virginia and is now a professor in the school counseling program of the Education Specialties Department in the Loyola University Maryland School of Education. Erford has worked at Loyola since 1993.

Erford previously served as president of the Association for Assessment in Counseling and Education (AACE), an ACA Division, chair of the ACA Southern Region, and president of the Maryland branch of ACA. He was appointed as an ACA Fellow in 2006, and has received several ACA awards including the Research Award, Extended Research Award, Arthur Hitchcock Distinguished Professional Service Award, Professional Development Award, and Carl D. Perkins Government Relations Award.

Erford is a delegate to the 20/20: A Vision for the Future of Counseling initiative co-sponsored by ACA. A frequent presenter, Erford also has written or edited 23 counseling books.

"With membership at its highest level in years, multiple exciting initiatives underway, and a new focus on research in counseling, this is an exciting time to lead ACA," Erford said. "I look forward to a year of collaborative leadership and teamwork with my fellow officers, Governing Council colleagues, and all the members and staff of ACA."

Another Loyola professor, Lynn Linde, EdD, will serve as treasurer from July 1, 2012- June 30, 2013. Linde is the current Coordinator of Clinical Experiences at Loyola University Maryland in the School Counseling Program. Linde previously served as ACA president from 2009-2010.

The American Counseling Association (www.counseling.org) is a nonprofit, professional and educational organization that is dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the counseling profession.
