Essentials for Counselors to Implement the DSM-5 and ICD-10

Learn to use the DSM-5 and implement the ICD-10-CM on October 1, 2015. Presenters will explore ways in which the DSM-5 and ICD-10-CM are similar and different; key diagnostic changes that will impact your daily practice; and the implications of multiaxial and dimensional diagnoses. Participants will also learn strategies to prepare a practice for ICD-10 implementation, maintain revenue, and reduce potential claim rejections. 

Additional Content: 

  • Demonstration on how to code a case using the DMS-5 and ICD-10-CM
  • Review of key issues related to assessments and new Z-Codes
  • Discussion about filing paper and electronic claims

Webinar Presenters:

Casey A. Barrio Minton Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  Her clinical experiences include serving clients in a range of outpatient, residential, intensive outpatient, and inpatient mental health settings with a focus on crisis intervention and stabilization.  She has authored multiple book chapters and journal articles focused on clinical mental health counseling and counselor preparation, and she is a co-author of DSM-5 Learning Companion for Counselors (https://www.counseling.org/publications/bookstore). She is the editor of the Journal of Counselor Leadership and Advocacy and is a past president of Chi Sigma Iota International and the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling.

Rob Reinhardt, M.Ed., LPCS, NCC is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in North Carolina. Rob is director of a growing counseling practice and CEO of Tame Your Practice, a private practice consulting firm that helps professional counselors grow their practices with a focus on efficient and compliant use of technology. Rob is also editor of the “Technology Tutor” column of Counseling Today.  Prior to entering the world of mental health care, his career was focused on Information Technology, with experience in software development, project management, and corporate management.

John P. Duggan, M.A., NCC, LCPC, LPC is a graduate of Marymount University in Arlington, VA with an MA in Counseling and of the Washington Theological Union in Washington, DC with an MA in Theology. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor in three jurisdictions, an approved supervisor in Maryland and a National Certified Counselor. John has worked as a counselor, pastoral care provider, consultant and media producer. John has owned and operated a private practice, and has experience managing clinical services in an agency setting, supervising counselors and other professionals, and providing crisis services for a hospital emergency services department. With a career spanning more than 25 years, John brings myriad experiences to support members of the American Counseling Association. He produces, hosts and edits ACA podcasts and he also produces ACA webinars. These programs offer professional development and continuing education opportunities to members throughout the year. John also responds to member inquiries on clinical issues, manages “Private Practice Pointers,” and provides consultation and workshops on counseling issues.

Barbara Carter is the owner of CMH Billing, a small mental health claims and billing company in Texas, offering on a personal touch to help counselors in private practice. Barbara earned an Associate of Applied Science in Commercial Art and worked as a commercial artist. In 1993, Barbara joined a thriving non-profit counseling practice in Irving, Texas, where she worked as a receptionist and then office manager. In 2005, Barbara started her own billing and claims specialty firm which offers services to support professional counselors in private practice. Barbara has more than a decade experience helping professional counselors with mental health billing, claim processing, credentialing, and “follow up” services.

No problem, you can watch any/all of the webinars you have missed on-demand after the live event. Sorry but you cannot sign up for single sessions within this series.

How late can I register for the series?
You can register at any time, but registration will close for each live event one hour prior to the event. If you register after one or more webinars have already occurred, you will be able to access the previous webinars on-demand.

When will I receive my password for each event?
An individual password for each live event will be sent to you via email the day before the event. Emails for on-demand webinars will be sent out with viewing instructions at the time of purchase.

Improved Access to Mental Health Care!

This morning, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius announced final rules for the 2008 Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act at a mental health conference at the Carter Center in Atlanta with former first lady Rosalynn Carter.
Insurers will now be required to cover care for mental health and addiction just like physical illnesses. Learn more through the links below:
