Music performance anxiety (MPA) is a common problem for musicians of any age, skill, or experience level. In this six-week group curriculum, college students who suffer from MPA learn positive coping skills and research-backed techniques in order to reduce their symptoms.

Disability and Forgiveness: An Intervention for Persons with Disabilities

Forgiveness is a means to help people reduce negative thoughts and feelings and build self-esteem, resiliency, and positive psychological well-being. Yet, it has rarely been applied to the needs of people with disabilities or to the numerous difficult, hurtful, and unpleasant obstacles, people, or situations that often accompany disability. The seven-module forgiveness intervention presented in this session was developed to meet this need.

Mindfulness Techniques in Groups for Women, Adolescents, and Adults

Contemporary CBT focuses on meaning assigned to cognitive phenomena and how we perceive the process of thinking. New developments in CBT incorporate mindfulness. Mindfulness training is based on the premise that people must change their relationship to their thoughts, pay attention to the moment-to-moment experience, and observe and be aware of what’s happening instead of automatically reacting to a situation. This poster session will discuss mindfulness techniques with specific populations.

Research studies that explore the wellness levels of students in graduate programs have increased. However, few of them have expended beyond advocating for wellness to address targeted interventions that improve wellness in graduate counseling programs. The purpose of this session is to present a model of a self-care group program that was created with the goal of developing and maintaining professional identity in professional counseling and related professions and counselor education programs.
