MISSOURI - AVILA UNIVERSITY - Tenure Track Clinical Counseling or Psychology

Avila University’s Department of Psychology invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track faculty position to teach in our undergraduate and master’s level graduate programs, starting August 15, 2014. A doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology is required. This faculty position will carry a teaching load of four courses (12 hours) per semester, typically two undergraduate and two graduate courses. Candidates should have a proven record of excellent teaching, and should be qualified to supervise master’s level counseling psychology students in Clinical Practicum using a scientist-practitioner approach. Faculty have the opportunity to develop undergraduate interdisciplinary and travel courses that fulfill teaching requirements. Demonstrated ability to engage in and supervise research is desirable. The Department of Psychology has seven full-time faculty members who serve approximately 90 psychology majors/minors and 160 psychology graduate students. The department has newly renovated research and clinical space, with one-way mirrors for live observation of research, as well as bug-in-ear technology for live supervision of counseling practicum sessions.  Avila University, a Catholic liberal arts university sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, is committed to teaching students to be advocates for social justice, regardless of their professional and academic field. The faculty have recently developed a progressive core undergraduate curriculum designed to educate students as global citizens, capable of engaging across social and cultural boundaries. Avila is located in a suburban neighborhood in Kansas City, a metropolitan area of 2 million people with a vibrant arts and music community, three major league sports teams, NASCAR, and outstanding cuisine.
