PENNSYLVANIA - UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA - Tenure Track, Applied Psychology and Human Development

Specialized Focus: Counseling and Applied Development

The division of Applied Psychology and Human Development at The University of Pennsylvnia’s Graduate School of Education (GSE) seeks nominees and applicants for a tenure-track position as assistant professor. The successful applicant would teach and conduct research in areas that connect the division’s human development and counseling emphases. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching address one or more of the following areas: novel approaches to understanding the intersections of counseling,  social-emotional functioning, school adjustment/performance, and healthy development; the roles of race, gender, and culture in shaping identity and educational growth; and community-, family-, or school-based mental health interventions that have an impact on life-span development. The successful candidate must show a clear capacity to conduct creative research in areas such as these and to teach courses on either counseling interventions, child and/or adolescent development, or sociocultural development as it applies to counseling and applied development work. Applicants must have earned a doctorate in counseling, applied psychology (counseling, clinical, school), or a related field, or show clear evidence that their doctoral degree will be completed prior to assuming the position in fall 2014. Given Penn GSE’s strong emphasis on diversity in its many forms, candidates from traditionally under-represented minority groups are particularly encouraged to apply.

We will begin reviewing applications on October 1, 2013, and will continue to consider new applications until the position is filled.  Please apply online at

https://www.gse.upenn.edu/faculty_research/positions/apply-aphd, submitting a letter expressing your interest and general qualifications, curriculum vitae, and reprints of three publications or relevant manuscripts. Please address all correspondence to Chair, Search Committee, APHD.
