  • ACA Holds Congressional Briefing

    Last month ACA held a Congressional briefing on school counseling titled, “The Importance of the Professional School Counselor: On the Front Lines with Students, Parents, and Families." The purpose of the briefing was to educate Congressional staff on who professional school counselors are as well the many roles they play in preparing students for both academia and the real world.     Giving website tips is tricky. While some counselors are overwhelmed by the thought of managing a website, others are quite savvy. Still, I wanted to share some thoughts because, in general, counseling websites tend to be a little soft when compared to other small business industries, like private practice attorneys, yoga studios and realtors — to name a few.

    Every clinician no matter how well known and connected now, was likely once in a place where they found themselves growing ever so frustrated over what appeared to be insurmountable odds of finding a place to get started. Few of us enter the field with connections, many of us enter as the first in our group to do so; professional connections are nonexistent beyond the professors we have had.
